SEGOVIA Part II

We spent the day walking around Segovia, a city one and a half hours west of Madrid. The day began at the Roman aqueduct, built 2 thousand years ago to bring clean water from the surrounding hills into the castle. Water ran across the top of the aqueduct, via gravity, down into underground canals. We then walked by the gothic cathedral, past the old Jewish quarter, and into the castle that looks like one used by Disney. Along the way we saw decorations on man buildings in the mudejar style-a kind of early graffiti! Mudejar is the name given to Muslim architecture in the 15 century when Chrstians, Muslims and Jews lived together, more or less in harmony. We saw many examples of this in the castle as well.
